STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

On Tuesday, January 26, 1999, President Clinton will welcome His Holiness John Paul II to the United States for a pastoral visit to St. Louis, Missouri. Pope John Paul II will arrive in St. Louis that afternoon and be greeted by the President on his arrival at Lambert Airport.

On the following evening, Wednesday, January 27, 1999, Vice President Gore will bid farewell to Pope John Paul II at the airport, as His Holiness departs for Rome.
