THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Vice President

For Immediate Release November 3, 1998

STATEMENT BY VICE PRESIDENT GORE

ON PRELIMINARY ELECTION RESULTS

Although all the results aren't in yet, so far, tonight has been a good night for America and a good night for Democrats.

Americans had a choice, and they chose progress over partisanship. They voted to protect Social Security, pass a patient's bill of rights, raise the minimum wage, modernize our schools, and continue to grow our economy.

They are sending a message to Washington: they want us to get back to work on the people's business -- and tomorrow, President Clinton and I will do just that. We'll be meeting with our team that is working on our efforts to protect Social Security -- and we will be moving ahead on that priority.
