             PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ARTHUR J. NAPARSTEK 
               AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 
       OF THE CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

The President today announced his intent to nominate Arthur Naparstek to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Dr. Arthur Naparstek, of Cleveland, Ohio has served on the Corporation's Board of Directors since 1994. Dr. Naparstek has served as the Grace Longwell Coyle Professor of Social Work at the Mandel School of Applied Social Services at Case Western Reserve University since 1983. He has also served as a Senior Associate at the Urban Institute since 1995. From 1993 to 1995, he was a Senior Fellow at the Cleveland Foundation and served as Director of the Cleveland Foundation Commission on Poverty from 1990 to 1993. Dr. Naparstek served as Dean of the Mandel School from 1983 to 1988. From 1976 to 1983, he served as Director of the Washington Public Affairs Center of the University of Southern California's School of Public Administration, where he increased enrollment by 300%. He has also served as Director of Policy and Research at the National Center for Urban Ethnic Affairs at Catholic University and as the Associate Director of the Urban Development Institute. He serves as a member of the Steering Committee of The President's Summit for America's Future and also as a member of the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation's Commission on Jewish Continuity.

Dr. Naparstek received a B.A. degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, a M.S.W. degree from New York University, and a Ph.D. degree from Brandeis University.

The Corporation for National and Community Service supports public-private partnership that provide opportunities for Americans of all ages to help communities meet critical challenges in the areas of education, public safety, human needs, and the environment. The Corporation oversees three national service initiatives: Americorps, the National Senior Service Corps, and Learn & Serve America.
