               PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DONNIE R. MARSHALL
     AS DEPUTY ADMINISTRATOR OF THE DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION 
                      AT THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

The President today announced his intent to nominate Donnie R. Marshall as the Deputy Administrator of Drug Enforcement Administration at the Department of Justice.

Mr. Donnie R. Marshall, of Saint Augustine, Texas, has served with the Drug Enforcement Administration for twenty-nine years. Since 1996, he has been the Chief of Operations. He is responsible for the daily management of the agency and has directed international investigations which have resulted in the arrest of important figures in major Mexican and Colombian drug cartels. From 1995 to 1996, he was the Chief of Domestic Operations and chaired the agency's Sensitive Activities Review Committee which is responsible for approving operations which have the potential to be controversial or high-risk. He oversaw DEA's air operations from 1986 to 1995, as the Special Agent in Charge of the Aviation Division, headquartered in Dallas. From 1984 to 1986, he was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Dallas Division. He has served as Chief of the DEA's Statistical Services Section, as a Senior Inspector in the agency's Office of Professional Responsibility, as the Deputy Regional Director for the Latin America Region, as a Country Attache in Brazil, as the Resident Agent in Charge in Austin, and as a Special Agent in Dallas and Houston.

Mr. Marshall received a B.S. degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) at the Department of Justice is the lead Federal agency in enforcing narcotics and controlled substances laws. The DEA investigates major narcotic violators who operate at interstate and international levels, manages a national narcotics intelligence system, seizes assets derived from drug trafficking, and coordinates operations with federal, state, and local enforcement authorities and counterpart agencies abroad.
