PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES THEODORE H. KATTOUF AS U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The President today announced his intent to nominate Theodore H. Kattouf to be U.S. Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Theodore H. Kattouf, of Altoona, Pennsylvania and a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, joined the State Department in l972. His first posting was to Kuwait as Economic/Commercial officer and he has since served in Syria, Washington, D.C., and subsequently as Deputy Chief of Mission in Iraq, Yemen, and Syria. He also served as Director of the Office of Northern Arab Affairs. He is presently Deputy Chief of Mission in Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Kattouf received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University in l968, followed by graduate work at Princeton University. He was in the United States Army from l968 to l972, attaining the rank of Captain. He speaks English and Arabic.
