                          PRESIDENT CLINTON 
               NAMES DONALD D. RUNNELLS AS A MEMBER 
            OF THE NUCLEAR WASTE TECHNICAL REVIEW BOARD

The President today announced his intent to appoint Donald D. Runnells as a Member of the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board.

Dr. Donald D. Runnells, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado Department of Geological Sciences. Dr. Runnells also serves as President of Shepherd Miller, Inc. in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr. Runnells has had a distinguished career both in the academic and business worlds. He was Chair of the Department of Geological Sciences from 1990 to 1993. He is a member of the Geochemical Society, Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers, and a Fellow with the Geological Society of America. From 1989 to 1992, he was a member of the Water Science and Technology Board of the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences and from 1972 to 1974, he served on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Energy Corporation. He also served as both Vice-President and President for the Association of Exploration Geochemists, from 1988 to 1991.

Dr. Runnells received his B.S. in Geology, with High Honors, from the University of Utah, an M.A. in Geology and Ph.D. in Geochemistry/Geology from Harvard University.

The Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board, established in the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments of 1987, is charged with evaluating the scientific and technical validity of activities undertaken by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in its program to manage and dispose of the nation's spent nuclear fuel and high-level waste.
