                    STATEMENT BY VICE PRESIDENT GORE 
                          ON FIRES IN FLORIDA

My heart goes out to the people of Florida during this difficult time. I know that the many wildfires they've had to struggle with over the past month has taken a tremendous toll on them. They are in my prayers.

I also want the families of Florida to know that we will do everything we can to help them recover from these blazes. The President's declaration today of Florida as a major disaster area will bring much needed resources to the affected counties.

These funds, combined with the remarkable courage that Floridans have displayed again and again during these trying weeks, will help stop these terrible blazes, prevent futher damage and speed the healing process.
