                  PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES KAY KOPLOVITZ 
            AS CHAIR OF THE NATIONAL WOMEN'S BUSINESS COUNCIL

The President today announced his intent to appoint Kay Koplovitz to serve as the Chair of the National Women's Business Council.

Ms. Kay Koplovitz, of New York City, New York, is the founder of USA Networks, and has served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since 1977. In 1994, she launched USA Networks International. She serves as Chairman of the International Council for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and is a member of the corporate boards of Nabisco Holdings Corp., Inc., Liz Claiborne, Inc. and General Re Corporation. Additionally, Ms. Koplovitz serves on the Board of Trustees for the Museum of Television and Radio, as well as the boards of the New York City Partnership, Junior Achievement and the Tennis Hall of Fame. She serves as a member of INSPAC, an industry advisory committee to the United States Trade Representative. In addition to these achievements, she led an industry-wide anti-drug initiative in cooperation with the Partnership for a Drug Free America. In 1994, she launched the nationwide "Erase the Hate" campaign, which promotes respect for and understanding of individual differences. Prior to her career at USA Networks, she was Vice President and Executive Director of UA-Columbia Satellite Services Inc. She has also operated her own communications management and public relations firm.

Ms. Koplovitz received a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. degree from Michigan State University.

The National Women's Business Council is responsible for advising the President, the Congress, and the Interagency Committee on Women's Business Enterprise, housed within the Small Business Administration, on economic issues of importance to women business owners. The Council promotes initiatives designed to support women's business enterprises at all stages of development in the public and private sector marketplaces.
