Washington, DC -- Vice President Gore today announced that Audrey Tayse Haynes, former Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Women's Initiatives and Outreach, will be Mrs. Gore's new chief of staff, replacing Susan Liss.
"I am very pleased that Audrey Haynes will be joining our staff," Tipper Gore said. Her efforts in these areas will complement the projects we are involved with to help improve the lives of women, children and families."
Ms. Haynes was Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office for Women's Initiatives and Outreach, where she served as a senior advisor to the President on issues of importance to women and families.
Before working at the White House, Ms. Haynes served as Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet for Health Services under Kentucky Governor Paul Patton, where she assisted with the administration of funds for Kentucky's Medicaid program, public health system and health/mental retardation/substance abuse system and the regulation of Kentucky's health care providers. She also served as Chief of Staff to Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Dr. Stephen L. Henry.
Ms. Haynes also formerly worked as Executive Director of Business and Professional Women/USA and the Business and Professional Women's Foundation, where she coordinated and advocated policy to improve the lives of working women and families. Prior to that, Ms. Haynes worked to improve literacy in America as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Literacy Commission.
Ms. Haynes will replace Susan Liss, who is leaving to become the Director of the Women's Health Project at the National Women's Law Center.
In addition, the Vice President announced that Residence Manager, Philip Dufour will take on the additional duties of Deputy Chief of Staff to Mrs. Gore and Social Secretary for the Vice President and Mrs. Gore.
