                   STATEMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT GORE 
              ON TODAY'S MEETING WITH EXECUTIVE OFFICERS 
                   OF THE BIG 3 AUTOMOBILE COMPANIES

Today's discussion with the executives of General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler was very candid and productive. We clearly share the same goal -- ensuring that we continue to grow our economy in ways that also improve the environment. Cleaner fuels are a big part of the solution to the challenges we face. I look forward to participating in a helpful way to find the right technological solutions to these challenges.

I also applaud the investments that the three companies have made in Detroit's economy and in urban areas, and I share their desire to ensure that we continue to bring economic prosperity to every part of our country. Today's meeting helps to continue the momentum of our successful Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles, and it establishes a framework for additional partnering opportunities. I look forward to working with everyone involved in today's discussion to achieve our common goals.
