                           PRESIDENT CLINTON 
             NAMES NORMAN Y. MINETA AS MEMBER OF THE BOARD 
       OF DIRECTORS OF METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY

The President today announced his intent to nominate Representative Norman Y. Mineta to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Rep. Norman Y. Mineta, of San Jose, California, is currently the Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Lockheed Martin IMS' Transportation Systems and Services line of business located in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining IMS, he represented the 15th District of California in the U.S. House of Representatives for 21 years. While in the House of Representatives, Rep. Mineta was an Ex-Officio member of all six Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittees including Surface Transportation, Aviation, and Water Resources and Environment. He was also the Chair of the Public Works and Transportation Committee during the 103rd Congress.

Rep. Mineta received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.

The Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is an interstate compact commission constituted solely to operate and improve both Washington National and Dulles Airports, the primary airports serving the Metropolitan Washington area. The Airports Authority is authorized to acquire, maintain, improve, operate, protect, and promote the airports for public purposes.
