                    STATEMENT BY WHITE HOUSE COUNSEL

Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr and his staff conducted an interview of Mrs. Clinton at the White House this afternoon. The interview lasted approximately five hours, was conducted under oath, and was videotaped for presentation to the grand jury in Little Rock, Arkansas. The subjects, generally, were matters concerning the Rose Law Firm's legal representation of Madison Guaranty Savings & Loan and Mrs. Clinton's relationship with related individuals.

Consistent with past practice, no further statements about the content of the interview will be made at this time.
