PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES NORA M. MANELLA TO THE FEDERAL BENCH
President Clinton today nominated Nora M. Manella to serve on the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Manella of Studio City, California, is the United States Attorney for the Central District of California, a position to which President Clinton appointed her in 1994. She received a B.A. degree from Wellesley College (1972), and a J.D. degree from the University of Southern California Law School (1975). Following law school, Manella clerked for Judge John Minor Wisdom of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. From 1976 to 1978, she was Legal Counsel to the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. In 1978, she joined the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers as a litigation associate. Before her appointment as United States Attorney, Manella served as an assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California (1982-1990); as a Judge on the Los Angeles Municipal Court (1990-1992); as a Judge on the Los Angeles Superior Court (1992-1994); and as a Justice Pro Tem on the California Court of Appeal (1992).
