PRESIDENT NAMES WILLIAM C. APGAR AS ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH AT THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
The President today announced his intent to nominate William C. Apgar as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Mr. William C. Apgar, of Newton, Massachusetts, has served as the Executive Director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University since 1987, where he has directed a program of research and related activities funded by Federal, State, and Local Governments, and Housing Organizations and Foundations. He has also served as a Lecturer in Public Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Mr. Apgar is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Committee for Boston Public Housing, and an Advisory Board Member for the Community Development Research Center of the New School for Social Research and the Newton Community Development Foundation.
Mr. Apgar received his B.A. in Economics, graduating Magna Cum Laude with Highest Honors from Williams College and obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.
The Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research is the principal advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on overall Department policy, program evaluation, economic analysis, research and regulation of housing financial institutions. The Assistant Secretary is responsible for the development and revision of policy and program proposals as well as evaluating and monitoring programs and information and coordinating policy development, research and program evaluation within the Department.
