                PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DANIEL C. BYRNE 
                       AS UNITED STATES MARSHAL 
                 FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK

The President today announced his intent to nominate Daniel C. Byrne to serve as United States Marshal for the Eastern District of New York.

Mr. Daniel C. Byrne, of New York, New York, is a career law enforcement officer who has served for the New York City Police Department since 1966. Mr. Byrne currently holds the rank of Inspector and is a Commanding Officer for the Executive Protection Section. He received a B.S. degree from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

The United States Marshal Service is responsible for providing support and protection for the Federal courts, apprehending Federal fugitives, operating the Federal Witness Security program, maintaining custody of and transporting Federal prisoners, and responding to emergency crisis situations.
