STATEMENT BY THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS SPOKESMAN
Vice President Al Gore will travel to South Africa from February 25 through February 27, 1998. While in South Africa, he will co-Chair with Deputy President Thabo Mbeki the fifth meeting of the U.S.-South Africa Binational Commission, which was established by Presidents Clinton and Mandela to facilitate bilateral cooperation in the areas of business development, conservation and environment, energy and sustainable development, human resources development and education, science and technology, and defense.
The Vice President intends to visit Pretoria and Capetown during his trip.
