Fiftieth Anniversary of the United Nations Resolution on Partition

On November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on partition, which eventually led to the establishment of the State of Israel. Israelis, and Americans with them, have begun a celebration to mark the Fiftieth Anniversary of the State of Israel. The President, on behalf of the American people, reaffirms the strong, close and unbreakable ties between our two nations. We have the deepest admiration for all that modern Israel has achieved in the past fifty years. Our respect for Israel's democracy and our commitment to Israel's security will remain unshakable. Together, we will strive for a secure, lasting and comprehensive peace between Israel and all of its neighbors.
