STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
Meeting with President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan
President Clinton will meet with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan at the White House on November 18. The two leaders will exchange views on U.S.-Kazakhstani bilateral relations, issues of regional concern and development of Caspian energy resources.
President Nazarbayev is in Washington for the fourth annual meeting of the U.S.-Kazakhstan Joint Commission, chaired by President Nazarbayev and Vice President Gore, which will take place November 17-18, 1997. The Commission was created to facilitate deeper cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States on economic and foreign policy matters, including trade and investment, non-proliferation, environmental protection, science and technology programs, and energy. The Commission last met in Almaty, Kazakhstan November 19-20, 1996.
