STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Malian President Invited for White House Visit

President Clinton has invited President Alpha Oumar Konare of the Republic of Mali for a working visit to Washington on November 19. Their meeting will reaffirm the strong bonds that have developed between the two countries following Mali's transition to democratic government in 1991.

The two leaders will discuss a broad range of issues of bilateral concern including economic development, regional stability and peacekeeping. President Konare will also meet with other senior Administration officials at the Departments of State, Defense and Transportation and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
