      PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES DAVID W. DORMAN, DR. JOE F. THOMPSON, 
          DR. IRVING WLADAWSKY-BERGER, AND DR. JOHN P. MILLER AS 
          MEMBERS OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON HIGH PERFORMANCE 
          COMPUTING AND COMMUNICATIONS, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, 
                   AND THE NEXT GENERATION INTERNET

The President today announced his intent to appoint David W. Dorman, Dr. Joe F. Thompson, Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger, and Dr. John P. Miller as Members of the Advisory Committee on High Performance Computing and Communications, Information Technology, and the Next Generation Internet.

Mr. David W. Dorman, of San Francisco, California, is currently President and CEO of PointCast and formerly Chairman, President and CEO of Pacific Bell. He was one of the founding leaders of the U.S. competitive long distance industry. Mr. Dorman holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Management with high honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Joe F. Thompson, of Starkville, Mississippi, is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Mississippi State University and was founding Director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center for Computational Field Simulation at Mississippi State University. Dr. Thompson pioneered the area of numerical grid generation, essential to computational fluid dynamics and other areas of computational field simulation. He is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, SIAM, the IEEE Computer Society, and is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Computational Physics. Dr. Thompson received a B.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Mississippi State University, and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger, of Fairfield County, Connecticut, is General Manager, IBM Internet Division at IBM Corporation. He is responsible for the company's overall Internet strategy, including advanced technology programs such as Internet 2. He is a founding member of the Computer Sciences and Telecommunications Board of the National Research Council, a former member of the Commission on Physical Sciences, Mathematics and Resources, and also of the National Research Council. Dr. Wladawsky-Berger received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Chicago.

Dr. John P. Miller, of Bozeman, Montana, is Director of the Center for Computational Biology at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. He is an active research neuroscientist, focusing on the biological mechanisms underlying information processing in nervous systems. Dr. Miller received his B.A. in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of California, San Diego.

The Advisory Committee on High Performance Computing and Communications, Information Technology, and The Next Generation Internet will provide valuable guidance and advice on all areas of high performance computing, communications, and information technologies to the President, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Federal agencies involved in the Computing, Information, and Communications R & D, including the Next Generation Internet Initiative. They will also provide valuable guidance on the Administration's efforts to accelerate development and adoption of information technologies that will be vital for American prosperity in the 21st century.
