                PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JUDITH A. SCOTT AS 
                    MEMBER TO THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO 
                 THE PENSION BENEFIT GUARANTY CORPORATION

President Clinton today announced his intent to appoint Judith A. Scott as Member to the Advisory Committee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

Judith A. Scott, of the District of Columbia, has served on the Advisory Committee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation since December, 1994. She is currently General Counsel at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in the District of Columbia and partner in the District of Columbia law firm of James and Hoffman. From 1992 to 1997, Ms. Scott was Special Counsel and then General Counsel to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Previously, Ms. Scott served as Associate General Counsel for the United Mine Workers of America, as Legislative Representative to the Industrial Union Department of the AFL-CIO, and as Assistant General Counsel to the United Auto Workers Union. Ms. Scott is also a board member of the Women's Legal Defense Fund. She received a B.A. degree from Wellesley College and a J.D. degree from the Northeastern University School of Law.

The Advisory Committee to the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation advises the Corporation on its policies and procedures relating to the appointment of trustees in termination proceedings, the investment of monies, schedules for the liquidation of terminated pension plans and other such issues as the Corporation may request from time to time. The Advisory Committee focuses primarily upon the Corporation's investments, regulations, insurance program and the defined benefit pension system.
