PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES GERALD S. McGOWAN AS U.S. AMBASSADOR TO PORTUGAL
The President today announced his intent to nominate Gerald S. McGowan to be United States Ambassador to Portugal.
Mr. McGowan, of Arlington, Virginia, is currently a partner in the law firm of Lukas, McGowan, Nace & Gutierrez, chartered in Washington, D.C. He has practiced telecommunications law since 1976. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) since 1996, and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA). He is also an owner-principal of Integrated North Coast, Inc., which develops and sells computer telephone software.
Mr. McGowan was born in Birmingham, Michigan. He holds a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and completed his undergraduate studies at Georgetown University in l968. He was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and served in Vietnam from l970-l97l.
