PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES RICHARD FRANK CELESTE TO BE U.S. AMBASSADOR TO INDIA
The President today announced his nomination of Richard Frank Celeste, the former Governor of Ohio, to be Ambassador to India.
Mr. Celeste served on the staff of the Peace Corps in Washington in l963, before going to India for four years as Executive Assistant to then U.S. Ambassador Chester Bowles. Shortly after his return to the United States, he began a career in public office which included two terms as a member of the Ohio General Assembly (l970-l974), Lieutenant Governor (l974-l978), and Governor (l982-l990). Mr. Celeste also served as Director of the Peace Corps from l979 to l98l. Since leaving office, he has led a small firm which specializes in the field of technology-driven economic development. He serves on a number of corporate and non-profit boards.
Mr. Celeste attended Yale University, where he received a B.A. in History magna cum laude in l959 and was a Rhodes Scholar from l960 to l962.
