              PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JOSE GERARDO TRONCOSO 
                        AS UNITED STATES MARSHAL 
                       FOR THE DISTRICT OF NEVADA

President Clinton today announced his intent to nominate Jose Gerardo Troncoso to serve as United States Marshal for the District of Nevada.

Mr. Troncoso, of Las Vegas, Nevada, has served for twenty-three years with the North Las Vegas Police Department, and was promoted through the ranks to Chief of Police. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1991 and received a Masters degree in Public Administration from LaSalle University in 1996.

The United States Marshal Service is responsible for providing support and protection for the Federal courts, apprehending Federal fugitives, operating the Federal Witness Security program, maintaining custody of and transporting Federal prisoners, and responding to emergency crisis situations.
