               PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES MARK REID TUCKER AS 
        U.S. MARSHAL FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF NORTH CAROLINA

President Clinton today announced his intent to nominate Mark Reid Tucker to serve as United States Marshal for the Eastern District of North Carolina at the Department of Justice.

Mr. Tucker, of Raleigh, North Carolina, has served since 1976 in the office of the Wake County Sheriff's Department in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he is currently the Deputy Sheriff. He has had responsibilities for security details, planning for air crash disasters, federal and state extradition procedures, telecommunications, and criminal investigations. He has completed extensive law enforcement training and is president of the Wake County Fraternal Order of Police.

The United States Marshal Service is responsible for providing support and protection for the Federal courts, apprehending Federal fugitives, operating the Federal Witness Security program, maintaining custody of and transporting Federal prisoners, and responding to emergency crisis situations.
