The President today announced his intent to nominate William Clyburn Jr. as a Member of the Surface Transportation Board.

In this capacity, his primary responsibilities include advising Senator Robb on policy implications of federal legislative initiatives involving transportation issues such as railroad mergers, labor concerns, appropriations for intermodal facilities, and intelligent transportation systems. Prior to joining Senator Robb, Mr. Clyburn served as Staff Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation from 1993 to 1995. From 1992 to 1993, he served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Rodney A. Peeples, 2nd Circuit Court in South Carolina. The Surface Transportation Board (STB), a bi-partisan board, was created in 1995 as the successor to the former Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) with regulatory powers focused primarily on the railroad industry.
