                  PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES RICHARD F. KEEVEY 
                      AS THE CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER FOR 
              THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT

The President today announced his intent to nominate Richard F. Keevey to serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Richard Keevey, of Arlington, Virginia, is currently the Senior Advisor to the Secretary for Financial Management. He is the former Director of the Defense Finance and Accounting Agency at the Department of Defense, where he was responsible for maintaining all finance and accounting records for the $255 billion annual Defense Department budget and its 2.5 million civilian, military, and retired employees. As the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Financial Management at the Department of Defense from 1994 to 1995, he was responsible for the direction of programs for the improvement of financial systems, including information systems, performance measurements, and acquisition logistics integration. From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Keevey served as State Budget Director and Comptroller in the Office of Management and Budget for the State of New Jersey, where he oversaw the planning, preparation, justification, and control of the State's $20 billion annual budget. In addition, he has taught as an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University, Rider College, and Rutgers University. He is a member of the American Society for Public Administration, the Association of Government Accountants, and the American Society of Military Comptrollers. Mr. Keevey received a B.A. degree from LaSalle College and an M.G.A. degree from Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Department of Housing and Urban Development reports directly to the head of the Agency regarding financial matters. The CFO oversees all financial management activities relating to the programs and operation of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and maintains an integrated agency accounting and financial management system.
