STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

WILLIAM RUCKELSHAUS TO SERVE AS COORDINATOR FOR SALMON DISPUTE WITH CANADA

The White House today announced the selection of Mr. William D. Ruckelshaus to lead a renewed effort to resolve the dispute with Canada over the interpretation and implementation of the Pacific Salmon Treaty. Mr. Ruckelshaus, together with his Canadian counterpart, Dr. David W. Strangway, will seek to facilitate the reinvigoration of the Pacific salmon stakeholder talks.

Mr. Ruckelshaus will report to the President and the Secretary of State and Dr. Strangway will report to the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Fisheries and Oceans.
