PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES RUDY F. de LEON UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR PERSONNEL AND READINESS
Today, the President announced his intent to nominate Rudy F. de Leon to be the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.
Mr. de Leon of Los Angeles, California, was confirmed by the Senate as the Under Secretary of the Air Force, on May 4, 1994. Prior to his time as Under Secretary, he was Special Assistant to Secretary of Defense Les Aspin. Before coming to the Pentagon with Secretary Aspin, he was a professional staff member on the House Armed Services Committee from 1985 to 1992, where he left as staff director. He holds a B.A. from Loyola University at Los Angeles, and has completed the Executive Program in National and International Security at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
As Under Secretary for Personnel and Readiness, Mr. de Leon will be the lead staff person for the Secretary of Defense on all matters related to defense personnel, both military and civilian, as well as the readiness of our forces. This includes compensation, equal employment opportunity, benefits, force structure, and readiness.
