The President today nominated the following individuals to the federal bench.
Anthony Ishii to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.
Alan S. Gold to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Lynne R. Lasry to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
Ivan L.R. Lemelle to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Biographical summaries of the nominees follow:
Anthony Ishii is a municipal court judge in Selma, California, where he has served since 1983. Prior to working in private practice from 1979 to 1983, Judge Ishii served as an attorney for the Fresno County Public Defender?s Office from 1975 to 1979, and as a Deputy City Attorney in Sacramento from 1974 to 1975. Ishii earned his undergraduate degree from the University of the Pacific and his law degree from the University of California?s Boalt School of Law at Berkeley. He was an instructor at Central California College School of Law from 1985 to 1996.
Alan S. Gold is a state trial court judge on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court for Dade County, Florida, where he has served since 1992. Following his service as an Assistant Dade County Attorney from 1971 to 1975, he was a partner for the Miami firm of Greenberg, Traurig, Hoffman, Lipoff, Rosen & Quentel for seventeen years. Judge Gold received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, his law degree from Duke University School of Law, and his Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Miami School of Law.
Lynne R. Lasry is a partner at the San Diego law firm of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, LLP, where she has practiced since 1987. Ms. Lasry served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney from the Southern District of California from 1982 to 1987. Prior to her tenure as a federal prosecutor, she worked at the San Diego law firm of Hillyer & Irwin, A.P.C. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Davis and her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, where she has been an adjunct professor of law since 1989. Ms. Lasry has served as a Director of the San Diego Inn of Court, as a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Federal Judicial Conference, and as a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
Ivan L.R. Lemelle is a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of Louisiana, where he has served since 1984. Judge Lemelle also has served in both state and local government, first as an Assistant District Attorney for the Orleans Parish District Attorney?s Office from 1974 to 1977, and then as an Assistant Attorney General for the Louisiana Department of Justice from 1981 to 1984. He also has worked in private practice. Judge Lemelle earned his undergraduate degree from Xavier University of Louisiana and his law degree from Loyola University of the South.
