PRESIDENT RELEASES EMERGENCY FUNDS FOR 1996 NATURAL DISASTERS

Assisting the Restoration of Public Facilities and Lands

The President today released $39 million in previously appropriated funds to the Interior Department mainly to repair Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and National Park Service facilities damaged by:

• flooding in the Midwest and Southwest;
• Hurricanes Bertha, Fran, and Hortense in the East and Southeast; and
• other acts of nature.

These emergency funds will also support the Interior Department in restoring the full timber and public use potential of lands in Western and Mountain States that were affected by last year's unusually severe fire season.
