         WHITE HOUSE TO HONOR 1996 KENNEDY CENTER HONORS AWARD
                  RECIPIENTS AT WHITE HOUSE RECEPTION

        The President and Mrs. Clinton will honor the 1996 "Kennedy

Center Honors" award recipients at a White House reception on Sunday, December 8, 1996. "The Kennedy Center Honors" recognizes American performance artists who have made lifetime contributions to American culture.

Awardees are selected by a committee of performing artists and the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees. The year's awardees are:

Benny Carter
Johnny Cash
Jack Lemmon
Maria Tallchief
