STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Release of American Citizen Evan Hunziker

The President warmly welcomes the release of Evan Carl Hunziker, who had been held by North Korea since late August and arrived today back in the United States. We have repeatedly urged the government of North Korea to release Mr. Hunziker and are pleased he will be home and reunited with his family in time for Thanksgiving.

The President once again extends his thanks and appreciation to Congressman Bill Richardson (D-NM) who traveled to North Korea to secure the release of Mr. Hunziker. Congressman Richardson's efforts were indispensable and we are grateful for his tireless efforts under difficult circumstances.
