PRESIDENT CLINTON ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF THE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL COMMITTEE 1997
President Clinton today announced the formation of the Presidential Inaugural Committee 1997 to organize the celebration of his inauguration to a second term. He also announced that Deputy Chief of Staff Harold Ickes will coordinate inaugural activities from the White House.
The inaugural committee will be co-chaired by Terence McAuliffe and Ann Dibble Jordan. McAuliffe, Chairman of American Heritage Homes Corporation, was National Co-Chairman and National Finance Chairman of Clinton-Gore '96. Ann Dibble Jordan is the former Director of the Department of Social Services at the University of Chicago Medical Center and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Symphony Orchestra and several other organizations.
"I appreciate the willingness of Terry McAuliffe and Ann Jordan to donate their time to the inaugural celebration," the President said. "It is my hope that the activities surrounding the inauguration will celebrate America and our great democracy, and I know that Terry and Ann will do a great job of making those events come to life."
"I especially want to thank Harold Ickes for taking on this job. Without Harold's friendship and his 'round-the-clock hard work, dedication and commitment, I doubt that I would be anticipating a second inauguration. So I appreciate his willingness to work to make this a great inaugural celebration," the President said.
The Executive Directors of the Committee will be Craig Smith, Political Director of Clinton-Gore '96, and Debbie Wilhite, who served during the 1996 campaign as Director of the Coordinated Campaign for the Democratic National Committee.
