STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

Second Strike Against Iraqi Air Defense Sites

United States military forces have carried out additional strikes against Iraqi air defense sites located below the 33rd parallel. This operation is designed to eliminate sites not destroyed in Tuesday morning's initial cruise missile attack. Like the initial strike, tonight's attack is necessary to ensure the safety of aircraft and crews operating in the expanded no-fly zone.

The Pentagon will provide details. General Joseph Ralston will brief in the Pentagon Briefing Room at 7:10 a.m. tomorrow.
