STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
The President announced today that he has established, effective July 19, 1996, Presidential Emergency Board No. 231, to investigate and make recommendations for settlement of the current dispute between the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and its employees represented by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
The President, by Executive Order, established the Emergency Board at the request of National Mediation Board.
The President appointed Robert E. Peterson of Briarcliff Manor, New York to be Chairman of the Board and Scott E. Buchheit of Haddonfield, New Jersey and Gladys Gershenfeld of Flourtown, Pennsylvania as members.
The Emergency Board will report its findings and recommendations for settlement to the President in thirty days.
