PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES MAJOR DISASTER IN INDIANA

President Clinton today declared a major disaster exists in the State of Indiana and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding beginning on April 28, 1996 through and including May 25, 1996.

Individual Assistance will be made available in Crawford, Dearborn, Franklin, Harrison, Lawrence, Martin, Orange, Vanderburg, Warrick and Washington counties. Assistance can include disaster housing, grants, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Public Assistance will be made available in the counties of Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dearborn, Dekalb, Dubois, Franklin, Gibson, Jefferson, Knox, Martin, Montgomery, Ohio, Orange, Perry, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Ripley, Sullivan, Steuben, Switzerland, Union, Vanderburg, Warrick, Washington and Whitley.

Federal funding is available to eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for the repair or replacement of public facilities damaged by the severe storms and flooding. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures.

Hazard Mitigation Grant assistance will be made available in Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dearborn, Dekalb, Dubois, Franklin, Gibson, Harrison, Lawrence, Jefferson, Knox, Martin, Montgomery, Ohio, Orange, Perry, Pike, Posey, Putnam, Ripley, Sullivan, Steuben, Switzerland, Union, Vanderburg, Warrick, Washington and Whitley.

Federal Emergency Management Agency is continuing to conduct damage surveys and additional counties may be added after the assessments are completed.
