PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES MARY BETH BLEGEN TO THE COMMISSION ON PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS

The President today announced his intent to appoint Mary Beth Blegen to the Commission on Presidential Scholars.

Mary Beth Blegen of Worthington, Minnesota, was recently honored as the 1996 National Teacher of the Year. Ms. Blegen is a high school humanities and history teacher at Worthington High School in Worthington, Minnesota. Ms. Blegen began her teaching career at Worthington High School in 1966, and is currently teaching grades 10 through 12. She is a graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars was established on April 16, 1964, to recognize and honor our Nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. The Commission members are appointed by the President. Annually, up to 141 students are chosen from among outstanding graduating seniors to become Presidential Scholars.
