          PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ALBERTO ALEMAN ZUBIETA TO BE 
              ADMINISTRATOR OF THE PANAMA CANAL COMMISSION

The President today announced his intention to nominate Alberto Aleman Zubieta to be Administrator of the Panama Canal Commission. He would succeed Gilberto Guardia.

Mr. Aleman has served since 1993 as Executive President for Constructora Urbana, S.A. in Panama. He began working at Constructura Urbana in 1974 as a project engineer on highway and bridge construction projects. From 1979 to 1982, Mr. Aleman managed all the construction projects as Chief Engineer and Vice President. From 1982 to 1993, his responsibilities as Executive Vice President expanded to managing the Constructora Urbana's subsidiary companies.

Mr. Aleman graduated from Texas A&M University with Bachelor of Science Degrees in Industrial Engineering (1973) and Civil Engineering (1974). A native of Panama, he now resides there with his wife and three children.
