PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES JOHNNY H. HAYES TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
President Clinton today announced his intent to nominate Johnny H. Hayes of Tennessee to serve as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Mr. Hayes has been serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority since his initial appointment in 1993. Mr. Hayes is the former Commissioner of Economic and Community Development for the State of Tennessee where he was responsible for ensuring job retention and economic growth initiatives for the state. Prior to that, Mr. Hayes served as the Commissioner of Employment Security. From 1964 until 1990 Mr. Hayes served as founder and president of Newman, Hayes & Dixon, an independent, full-service insurance agency in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporation of the federal government created in 1933. The purpose of the Authority is to improve the navigation of the Tennessee River and to control the destructive flood waters of the Tennessee River and Mississippi River basins.
