THE PRESIDENT NAMES AMBASSADOR TO ICELAND
The President today announced his intent to nominate Day Olin Mount of Virginia, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, as Ambassador to the Republic of Iceland.
Currently Director of the Office of Environmental Policy, Mr. Mount has been active in developing approaches to resolve numerous environmental problems of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as dealing with issues involved in international movements of toxic chemicals and hazardous wastes. He was previously assigned as Consul General in Stuttgart, Germany (1990-1993) and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information Systems in the Department of State (1984-1989). His overseas experience also includes tours in Austria, Thailand and Greece.
Mr. Mount was born in New York City in 1940. He earned with distinction a bachelors in Business Administration from New York University. He is also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Department of State.
