STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

             Presidential Delegation to the Inauguration of
          His Excellency Jorge Sampaio, President of Portugal

President Clinton has appointed Mr. J. Brian Atwood, Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, to lead a presidential delegation to the inauguration of His Excellency Jorge Sampaio, President of the Republic of Portugal. The inauguration will be celebrated in Lisbon on Saturday, March 9. The Presidential Delegation also will include Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, U.S. Ambassador to Portugal, and Mrs. Susan Atwood.
