              THE PRESIDENT NAMES AUBREY HOOKS AMBASSADOR TO 
                         THE REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

The President today announced his intention to nominate Aubrey Hooks, of Virginia, Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor as Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo.

Mr. Hooks is currently a member of the Senior Seminar at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center. He has attended the NATO Defense College in Rome. He was also a member of the U.S. delegation to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe and Finland in 1992.

Mr. Hooks was born May 18, 1948, in South Carolina. He attended Brevard College in North Carolina, the University of South Carolina, George Washington University and the University of Michigan. He is married and has six children. He speaks French, Polish, Hebrew, Turkish and Spanish.
