STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

National Security Adviser Anthony Lake announced the appointment of Sandra J. Kristoff as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Asian Affairs of the National Security Council.

In her 19 years of government service, Ms. Kristoff has served as Ambassador for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs at the State Department (1995); as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Asia Pacific Economic Affairs, National Security Council and National Economic Council (1994); and as Director of Asian Affairs, National Security Council (1993). From 1985-1992, Ms. Kristoff served first as Deputy and then as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Asia and the Pacific.

Ms. Kristoff is a native of Pennsylvania. She received a BA and an MA from American University and a JD from George Washington University.
