       THE PRESIDENT NAMES AMY M. ROSEN MEMBER OF THE BOARD FOR THE 
                         AMTRAK BOARD OF DIRECTORS

President Clinton today announced the appointment of Amy M. Rosen of New Jersey as a Member of the Board of the Amtrak Board of Directors.

Ms. Rosen currently serves as a Senior Vice President for Lockheed Martin IMS where she is responsible for corporate-wide marketing. Ms. Rosen is also the former Executive Director and Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Transit Corporation, a position she has held since 1991.

Created by Congress in 1970, Amtrak is a private corporation with controlling stock held by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Of its nine member Board of Directors, five are appointed by the President of the United States and two are appointed by the Secretary of Transportation, Federico Pena. In addition to its basic national system, Amtrak provides intercity and commuter rail passenger transportation for the United States.
