STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

State Visit by President Stephanopoulos of Greece

President Clinton has invited Greek President Konstantinos Stephanopoulos to Washington for a State Visit on May 9. President Stephanopoulos has accepted the invitation. The visit provides an opportunity for the two leaders to reaffirm the close relations between the United States and Greece and to celebrate the warm friendship and ties of kinship that exist between our two peoples.

The two leaders will discuss a number of bilateral issues, including U.S.-Greek economic relations, and exchange views on a range of international issues, including Cyprus and the situation in the Balkans.
