           PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES STUART G. MOLDAW TO THE 
                 COMMISSION ON PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS

The President today announced his intent to appoint Stuart G. Moldaw to the Commission on Presidential Scholars.

Stuart G. Moldaw of California is an entrepreneur and an operating manager with over 40 years of experience in the retail industry. He is currently chairman emeritus of the Board of Directors of Ross Stores. In addition, he is chairman of the board of Gymboree Corporation, a specialty children's apparel chain, and Home Express, a retail chain specializing in merchandise for the home. In 1980, Mr. Moldaw co-founded U.S. Venture Partners, one of the largest premier venture capital firms in the country. He retired as a general partner of U.S. Venture Partners in 1990, and currently serves as a special limited partner. He serves as a board member of Preview Media, and Natural Wonders, as well as a number of other privately-owned venture capital retail firms. In 1993, Mr. Moldaw was appointed as a public delegate to the U.S. Mission at the United Nations for the 48th General Assembly. Mr. Moldaw graduated from Syracuse University in 1949. He will serve as Chair of the Commission on Presidential Scholars.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars was established on April 16, 1964, to recognize and honor our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Annually, up to 141 students are chosen from among outstanding graduating seniors to become Presidential Scholars.
