PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES MAJOR DISASTER IN MINNESOTA

President Clinton today declared a major disaster in the state of Minnesota and ordered federal aid to supplement local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe ice storm October 23 - 24, 1995.

The President's action makes federal funding available to local governments in a four county area. The counties include: Big Stone, Stevens, Swift, and Traverse.

Federal funding is available to eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for regular repair or replacement of public facilities damaged by the severe ice storm.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is continuing to conduct damage surveys in other areas of Minnesota and additional counties may be added after the assessments are complete.
