           PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ROBERT M. LYFORD TO THE 
              U. S. MILITARY ACADEMY BOARD OF VISITORS 

President Clinton announced today his intent to appoint Robert M. Lyford of Arkansas to the U.S. Military Academy Board of Visitors.

Mr. Lyford is vice president and general counsel of the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation of Little Rock where he represents the interests of the corporation and its members in a broad range of immediate and long range legal matters. Previously, Mr. Lyford was assistant commissioner for compliance and chief counsel of the Arkansas Insurance Department. From 1979 to 1981 he was a special assistant in Governor Bill Clinton?s office. Previously he served as deputy attorney general under Arkansas Attorney General Clinton. Mr. Lyford is the electricity committee vice chairman of the American Bar Association's Section of Public Utility, Communications and Transportation. He also serves on the in-house counsel of the Arkansas Bar Association. A former captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Corps, Mr. Lyford received his Army commission through ROTC as an Infantry Branch second lieutenant. He earned a B.A. from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas; a Diploma in Criminology from the University of Cambridge and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law. Mr. Lyford is a member of the Rotary Club of Little Rock, the executive board of the Quapaw Area council of the Boy Scouts and of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Little Rock. He is married to Nell Weaver Lyford and the father of two children, Charles and Kate.

The U.S. Military Academy Board of Visitors visits the Academy annually and inquires into the morale and discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters relating to the Academy which the Board decides to consider.
