       PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES THOMAS P. CROSS TO THE 
            PRESIDENTIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON
               GULF WAR VETERANS? ILLNESSES

     President Clinton today announced the appointment 

of Thomas P. Cross of Connecticut to the Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans? Illnesses.

Mr. Cross is currently a Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserve who was activated during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was an Assistant Operations Officer for the 6th Marine Regiment in the Gulf, where he participated in the initial attack across the Kuwaiti border in February 1991. He is the recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat ?V', as well as the Combat Action Ribbon and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. Mr. Cross earned a B.S. in marketing from Central Connecticut State University and is continuing his education toward a Certification in Purchasing Management (CPM). He is currently a sales representative for Bell Industries, an electronics components distributor in Meriden, Connecticut.

The Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans? Illnesses was established by the President in May 1995 to review and provide recommendations on the full range of government activities relating to Gulf War veterans' illnesses. The Committee reports to the President through the Secretaries of Defense, Veterans Affairs, and Health and Human Services. Its interim report is due in February 1996.
